To stay warm.

With winter just around the corner, we are reminded that to stay warm we`ll have to keep the woodpile nicely stocked. Therefore we plan to work on that a bit this week. We started today with catching up on sawing. We parted all the wood we had collected previously into bits of 40 centimeters or less. This way it can be used in most woodstoves the wood is likely to end up in. (That`d be either one of ours, or the big oven the inlaws heat their water and house with.)

Busy sawing up the birch logs into smaller bits.
Time for a small break and a selfie with the growing woodpile.

This eagle came to visit us. Difficult to take pictures of these things, but believe me when I say it was enormous.

After the sawing, it was time to split the wood for drying.

I split wood by axe, while Maren and Gudmundur manned the hydraulic splitter for large and difficult wood.

We called it a day after we split 2 cubic meters of wood. There is enough left to fill four to six more pallets. Tomorrow we work on.
